Math-A-Magic School Assembly
Comedy, magic, audience participation and, of course, math. This math assembly proves math can be fun: students discover that the math they already know can do miraculous things.

A math assembly that feels like a magic show
David Hagerman is also a professional magician, and Math-A-Magic is where his two worlds meet. Every trick has math inside it, and students get to find it. Volunteers from the audience help make the magic happen.
Every age group gets its own show. Lower elementary and upper elementary see different versions of Math-A-Magic, and middle schoolers get math that’s surprisingly advanced. Book back-to-back shows and each group gets a performance matched to its grade level, so every grade leaves feeling a little smarter than when they walked in.
This was the best assembly we have had at Fatima in my three years here as elementary principal!

Routines vary by venue. Each performance is built for its space and audience, so a demonstration listed here may not appear in every show.

What students learn
Patterns, geometry, number sense and quick mental math, all shown through tricks students can’t wait to try at home. Math-A-Magic turns “when will I ever use this?” into “how did he do that?”, and the answer is always math.
